Making your home more accessible by implementing elements of universal design is a smart idea, especially if you plan on aging in place or you have anyone living at home that is physically limited or mobility challenged. However, there’s a common misconception that focusing on improving accessibility tends to damage the style of your home, since universal design is function over form. This isn’t necessarily true. Even though universal design does focus on function, that doesn’t mean you can’t add a bit of style as well. For example, when installing an accessible shower, there’s no reason there can’t be a balance between form and function.

Having a bar to grab on to can greatly decrease your risk of injury when washing your hands, using the toilet, or stepping into the tub. Grab bars are one of the most important features when designing a home to be more accessible. Unfortunately, some people avoid adding as many grab bars as they need because they are afraid they will harm the appearance of their home. With the attractive grab bars from Totally Accessible Homes, this need not be a worry.

For Backyard Fun! Summer is the perfect time to have some fun outside of the home, seeing as how the sun has started to shine and the skies have cleared up. Better still, summer is the season when most kids have their longest-lasting breaks from school, which is convenient for families that want to spend more time together.
